HOW MANY CLIENTS DO YOU WORK WITH?
Personal attention is important when engaging a financial advisor. It makes sense to keep the number of clients we work with at a manageable level. Doing so allows us the time to better understand and devote time to your unique financial situation.
ARE THERE FINANCIAL INCENTIVES FOR YOU TO RECOMMEND CERTAIN FINANCIAL PRODUCTS?
We are not tied to any investment company or product. The recommendations that we make are based solely on your specific needs. They are not tied to commissions, awards, bonuses, or tips based on sales volume.
DO YOU OFFER CONTINUOUS, ON-GOING ADVICE REGARDING MY FINANCIAL AFFAIRS, INCLUDING ADVICE ON NON-INVESTMENT RELATED FINANCIAL ISSUES?
Yes. we provide a complete open door, phone, email, or text message policy. In order to stay on track, it’s important that we maintain an open communication channel. We are available as your personal financial consultant as needed.
YOU SAY YOU ARE INDEPENDENT. WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT?
WPS is not owned by a company which also has an interest in an asset manager, stockbroker, insurer, investment platform, discretionary fund manager or the like. This means that we are not in any way incentivised to sell, market or promote these products or services. Rather, we are able to advise our clients on any appropriate product or service, regardless who the service of supplier may be. We believe that this is in our clients’ best interest.
I LIVE FAR FROM YOUR OFFICES. CAN YOU STILL HELP ME?
Yes. We have clients across South Africa and clients who live abroad too. We use technology to interact with our clients, including Skype Calls and Video Conferencing. We travel across South Africa and often do our regular reviews with clients in places which suit them.
DOES YOUR COMPANY ONLY GIVE ADVICE OR DO YOU HAVE YOUR OWN OR ASSOCIATED PRODUCTS AND SERVICES THAT YOU SELL?
We only give independent advice. Our company and advisors have no interest in any product or solution providers and we are able to give truly unconflicted advice.
DO YOU OFFER A FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION?
We are happy to offer an initial meeting to explain how we work and to understand what your needs are. This meeting will be done at our cost. With you, we will determine whether the services offered by us and our competencies meet your needs. If we both agree that there is a fit and we can add value to you, we will agree on the services to be provided and the scope of the engagement before any financial planning is provided.
DO YOU OFFER ASSISTANCE TO IMPLEMENT THE PLAN?
If our advice is accepted, we will agree on implementation responsibilities that are consistent with the scope of the engagement. Based on the scope of the engagement, we will identify and present appropriate products and services that are consistent with the financial planning recommendations accepted by you and facilitate the transactions as may be necessary.
DO YOU PROVIDE A COMPREHENSIVE WRITTEN ANALYSIS OF MY FINANCIAL SITUATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS?
Yes. We always provide written recommendations and advice.
DO YOU RECEIVE REFERRAL FEES FROM ATTORNEYS, ACCOUNTANTS, INSURANCE AGENTS, MORTGAGE BROKERS OR OTHERS?
No. We neither receive nor give any fees from or to third parties. Where we refer you to a third party we do so only on the basis that we believe that they will be the best fit for you.
DO YOU TAKE CUSTODY OF, OR WILL YOU HAVE ACCESS TO MY ASSETS?<br />
We will never have custody of any of your assets. All investments are made in your name and paid by you to the product and service providers. The only access we would have would be to financial records and balances.
WILL YOU PROVIDE ME WITH REFERENCES FROM OTHER PROFESSIONALS?
We work closely with our clients’ other professional advisors. Most of our clients already have existing relationships, and we are happy to become part of those clients’ teams. If a client doesn’t have a relationship with other professionals, we are more than happy to introduce them to accountants, attorneys, tax specialists, trust experts, estate administrators and the like. We have no fee sharing arrangements with any third parties
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I SEE MY FINANCIAL PLANNER?
While your financial planner may make a different recommendation based on your particular circumstances, it’s a good idea to see him or her once a year. You should also consider making an appointment in anticipation of life-changing events such as marriage, the birth of a child, divorce, or after inheriting a large amount of money.
WHAT IS A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® PROFESSIONAL?
A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional has achieved the highest financial planning qualification worldwide and carries membership with the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa. Certified Financial Planners comply with a stringent set of eligibility criteria and are regularly tested by the international body that controls the designation they hold.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO THE FIRST MEETING WITH YOU?
Please bring a copy of your ID and proof of residence (less than three months old). If you have any information regarding your present financial position, existing investments and policies, medical aid and the like, it will be useful but if we decide to work together we will request relevant information from you.
HOW DO I CHOOSE THE CORRECT INVESTMENT ADVISER?
Choosing an investment adviser may be one of the most important decisions you make for yourself and your family. Taking the necessary time to choose an adviser who is professional, competent and trustworthy, and has specialist knowledge is important. When people say they specialize in everything, watch out, because no one can specialize in everything. Those who focus on a specialized area, will have more expertise, and will offer better qualified advice, than those who try to master a wide range of areas. Another key question to ask is client workload. If an adviser has more than a couple of hundred clients, they may be spreading themselves too thin. Be thorough when selecting a trusted investment adviser. After all, you’ll be entrusting this person to help you turn your financial dreams into reality.
WILL YOU ONLY INVEST MY ASSETS IN SOUTH AFRICA AND I NEED A SOMEONE ELSE TO LOOK AT MY FOREIGN INVESTMENTS OR CAN YOU HELP ME WITH THAT TOO?
We are able to advise on and manage your investments across the globe. We work with some of the best product and service providers across the globe and have relationships with experts in various jurisdictions where our clients either reside or invest.
